God’s Presence- Part 1

Exodus 33:15 – Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.”

The presence of God in the life of a Christian is very important yet very few are aware of it. I draw inspiration from Moses who was wise enough to know how important God’s presence was in His journey. In Exodus chapter 33:15 He spoke as one who dreaded the thought of going forward without the Lord’s presence. He knew that without God’s presence he would be like a ship without a sail going to and fro with no direction. He knew he would be lost in his great task of leading the children of Israel out of Egypt, so he sought God’s presence.

In my post today, I will try to share the little I know on the benefits of having God’s presence in our lives.

1. In God’s presence we find rest from every side.. Exodus 33:14 says, And he said,”my presence will go with you, and I(GOD) will give you rest.” Jesus also said in the book of Matthew 11:28 that if those who labour and are heavy laden come to His presence, He will give them rest – “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Also in 2 Chronicles 15:15 it is recorded that because all of Judah sought the Lord, they found Him and He gave them rest on every side – “All Judah rejoiced about the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought God eagerly, and he was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.”

2. In His presence we find honour and majesty, in His presence we find strength and joy – 1 Chronicles 16:27 “honour and majesty are found in His presence; strength and joy are found in His sanctuary”.  Most times we are weak and dishonoured because we are without His presence.

3. In His presence we stand secured. We are hidden from the plots of the devil -Psalm 31:20 “you shall hide them in the secret place of your presence from the plots of man; you shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.”

4. In His presence there is Liberty (freedom), in His presence there is salvation. Hear David in Psalm 51:11-12 “Cast me not away from thy presence, and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. {12} Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.” In His presence there’s a restoration of God’s salvation. Imagine if God’s presence lived with us every single second… That means salvation would never depart from us.

5. The presence of the Lord breaks us from every bondage of sin. Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God– {9} not by works, so that no one can boast. It is by the PRESENCE of God’s Holy Spirit that we are given freedom.”  Also, 2 Corinthians 3:16-17 says, “But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. {17} Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”

6. In the presence of the Lord there is a refreshing of the Soul. The book of Acts 3:19 says, “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the PRESENCE of the Lord.”

7. When God’s presence is in your life, all mountains in your life begin to melt like wax (Psalm 97:5 – the mountains melt like wax at the PRESENCE of the Lord, at the PRESENCE of the Lord of the whole earth).

8. In His presence we are kept from stumbling. He keeps us faultless. This point is related to point no. 5. The book of Jude 1:24-25 says,”now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to God our saviour, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.”

Now that you know the benefits of having God’s presence in your life, seek it. Most importantly, when His presence starts following you, don’t let it stay passive… Task His presence just like Jacob and say to Him “I won’t let You go unless you bless me.”

God bless you!!
